Healthcare Tech Caucus

Frequently Asked Questions

+ What is the Healthcare Tech Caucus?

The Healthcare Tech Caucus is for Healthcare Techs, Behavioral Techs, CNAs, and MAs.

+ Why a Healthcare Tech Caucus?

Because we know that Healthcare Techs, CNA’s and Medical Assistants are the backbone of Denver Health. The health and safety of our patients directly relates to the ability of the CNAs, the HCTs and MAs to do their jobs safely and with proper staffing. We are an essential part of Denver Health and it is important that our voices and our concerns are heard and addressed.

+ What do we want?

  • Higher wages: The reality is that many of us do not make a living wage for the Denver Metro Area. We should not have to wait for an increase in minimum wage to watch out wages go up.
  • Hazard pay: Many of us work with combative, high acuity, or Covid positive patients.
  • Staffing: Working understaffed is bad for us and bad for the patients.
  • No retaliation or money spent on anti-union practices. While we join with our co-workers to fight for a living wage, no money should be spent by Denver Health to bust the union.

More generally, we believe Denver Health Healthcare Techs are the backbone of the hospital. We deserve respect and proper compensation. Healthcare Techs are essential to Denver Health and our patient care.

+ Will I be retaliated against?

It is illegal to retaliate against someone for joining the union. We encourage everyone to join, to do your job well, and to push Denver Health to treat us with the dignity and respect we treat our patients.

+ I don’t want to fight with management. Should I still join?

We will continue to harness our community and political support to work with management for positive changes for us and our patients.

This union and our collective voice isn’t about fighting with management. We want a seat at the table and a way to advocate for ourselves at work. We want Denver Health to be a great place to give and recieve care.

+ How will DHWU affect change without collective bargaining?

Collective bargaining is just a tool in the union tool box. DHWU has already affected positive change with a minority of DH workers. Whistleblower protections and paid sick leave bills have passed through the state legislation due to the efforts of DHWU.

+ Where do the dues go?

Organizing costs money. Money is spent on the website, flyers, lobbying and organizing support, media consulting, and much more. DHWU is a registered non-profit and future officers of the union will be prohibited from benefiting from the proceeds.

+ How do I get more involved?

If you haven't, you can join here.
