DH Admin, Don’t Break Our Hearts

DH executives might attack our new union. In 2004 when RNs tried to organize a union, admin took the anti-union low road. Some leaders lied and told RNs that they could not legally have a union. Other managers pressured workers not to support the union by using standard anti-union tactics such as promising changes, scaring people, and talking negatively about the union. We are asking DH Admin not to break our hearts by attacking our union. Here are some ways they might:

Heart Break #1: Saying now is not the time

Don’t tell us to wait until the COVID-19 crisis has passed. Frontline Denver Health workers need unity and power in numbers now more than ever.

Heart Break #2: Hiring a union-busting law firm to smear the union

Don’t spend money we desperately need for pandemic paid leave, PPE, patient care and hazard pay on a union-busting law firm.

Heart Break #3: Pressuring our supervisors to pressure us

Don’t force our supervisors to have one-on-one conversations or hold group captive audience meetings to criticize our union.

Heart Break #4: Implying we are being disloyal or harming Denver Health

Don’t imply we are harming the workplace we love. We are unionizing because we love Denver Health and our community. Together we want to make it better.

Heart Break #5: Dividing and conquering

Don’t try to pit us against each other, against patients, or against the community. We stand for unity of all DH frontline workers and the people we serve.

Heart Break #6: Using the fear factor

Don’t try to change the subject and scare us out of forming a union with negative stories, mudslinging or by implying it will be bad for us. We are uniting for the common good: workers’ rights and patient care.

Report the heartbreak.

We hope the Denver Health top executives respect us and our union. But if they do break our hearts by busting our union, you can report anti-union activity on this confidential form.
