About us

WE ARE DENVER HEALTH WORKERS UNITED

Denver Health Workers United is a union by and for frontline employees. We are an open union for all staff, fighting for health and safety protections, equitable wages, benefits and working conditions, as well as increased public funding.  We love Denver Health because we are Denver Health. However, the COVID-19 crisis lays clear that those of us taking the highest risk have too little of a say when it comes to the health and safety of ourselves and our patients. We are building an independent employee organization with the power to address our concerns.

Denver Health Workers United is affiliated with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 7799.  CWA is a national union that represents 40,000 healthcare workers and over 100,000 public workers across the nation.  As employees of Denver Health we are considered public workers and currently have no legal right to collective bargaining.  By creating a union right now and inviting every Denver Health employee to join us, we can create power by unifying our voices. Together we can create positive change for staff — and the community we love and serve.

Get involved and join the union today.

Calling for worker protections

To improve COVID-19 crisis response at Denver Health, we call on the Denver Health Hospital Authority administration and board to implement these much needed improvements.

1. Adequate staffing ratios, training and personal protective equipment (PPE)

2. Comprehensive pandemic sick leave for staff

3. Maintaining full time hours for frontline workers

4. Hazard pay and additional compensation for mandatory overtime

5. Respect our right to organize; no hospital funds spent on anti-union activities
